GIRLS
Taylor County, the top seed on the public school side, kept its dream of a perfect season alive with a 57-30 win over No. 16 Greenville, Friday night. Taylor County had already defeated Greenville by an average margin of 34 points in three previous meetings this season, and didn't give the Patriots reason to be hopeful of an upset by jumping out to a 35-13 lead at the half. The Vikings, now 28-0, were led by Rasheeka Simmons with 18 points, and will now face No. 8 Treutlen in the quarterfinals, which downed Emanuel County Institute 57-46.
On the private school side, No. 2 Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy routed No. 15 George Walton Academy, 49-25. The Warriors will meet No. 7 Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in the quarterfinals, after the Charger's 58-45 win over No. 10 Fellowship Christian. SACA has already defeated ELCA twice this season, 73-63 during the regular season and 76-55 in the Region 5 tournament last week.
No. 3 Savannah Christian Day (27-2) and crosstown rival No. 6 Calvary Day (21-5) are headed for their third meeting this season after first round wins for each on Friday. SCD led No. 14 Whitefield Academy just 24-18 at halftime, but a 10-0 run to start the third quarter propelled the Hornets to a 49-28 win. Anna Muller scored 14 points while Amari Oliver added 12. Calvary Day trailed No. 11 Lakeview Academy 22-21 at the half and the game was tied at 33 in the fourth quarter before the Cavaliers went on a 13-2 run en route to a 51-43 win. Quiva Porter led the way for Calvary Day with 16 points, while Abigail Lewis added 15. Lakeview's Hanna Grogan led all scorers with 17 points. SCD has won both meetings with Calvary Day this season.
BOYS
No. 5 North Cobb Christian got a game-high 32 points from Nick Fleming, including five three-pointers, in a 76-59 win over No. 12 Calvary Day in Friday's first round. Jonny Crumley added 18 and Jalen Dampier had 14. Calvary Day was led by Tyrone Riley's 17 points and 10 rebounds, while AJ Keene had 12 points.
