The Bob Blastow Early Bird took place Saturday at Alexander. It is one of the season's first big meets for local cross country teams. Class AAAA No. 1 Woodward Academy took first place in the boys race while Class AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity won the girls race. In the boys competition, Alexander took second with 87 points (behind Woodward's 37), McIntosh third (106), North Paulding fourth (121) and Carrollton fifth (152). The St. Pius and McIntosh girls tied with 88 points, just behind first-place Blessed Trinity's 77.
Alex Murphy won the boys race with a time of 15:54.22. The Woodward student was joined by three teammates (Ben Murray, Drew Sands and Collin Silliman) in the top 10. Ryan Peck of Wheeler came in second with a time of 16:04.73.
Anna Hayden of Riverwood won the girls race with a time of 18:38.94, while teammate Elizabeth Graves took second with a time of 18:45.78. Blessed Trinity finished with three runners in the top 10 (Mary Claire Soloman, Emma Rose Bagwell, Maddie Heller).
In the Kosh Classic at Westminster, the host Wildcats won the boys race while arch-rival took the girls race. Westminster's girls squad did not take part in the meet.
Serena Tripodi of Lovett won the girls race with a time of 20:40.66 and was trailed by Archer's McKenzie Knudsen, who finished with a time of 22:06.27. The next five finishers were Lovett Lions.
Westminster's Graham Huff too the boys individual title with a time of 18:26.65. Newnan's Matthew Miller took second (18:32.50) while Westminster's Clare Draper took third with a time of 18:37.47.
West Forsyth won the girls portion of the Peachtree Ridge/Walton Stages Races Saturday while St. Pius won the boys meet. In the girls meet, Brookwood took second, Harrison third, Peachtree Ridge fourth and Parkview fifth. The Mill Creek boys took second behind St. Pius while Brookwood took third, Peachtree Ridge fourth and Walton fifth.
Mitchell Sanders of Walton won the boys race with a time of 9:58.92 and Lindsay Billings of Northview won the girls race with a time of 11:08.21.
