We're already halfway through the regular season, which means it's time to start paying attention to the Georgia High Schools Association/MaxPreps power ratings. For newcomers, public and private schools in Class A compete against each other during the regular season but separately in the playoffs. As such, the top 16 teams on each side advance to the post season and are selected based on a power rating system, coordinated by MaxPreps for the GHSA. The top eight teams host the first round of the playoffs, with the top ranked team hosting the No. 16, No. 2 hosting No. 15, and so on. Click here for an explanation of how power ratings are determined.
Also, we’ll bust out our first Divided Top 5 list for this season. As most Class A Blog veterans know, the Divided Top 5 is a list of the top five private and public school teams, in alphabetical order, according to your humble scribe.
