Buford 56, Berkmar 0: The Buford defense held visiting Berkmar to minus-17 rushing yards and 26 total yards of offense. Xavier Gant returned the opening kickoff to midfield and took the next two carries for a 43-yard run and a 2-yard touchdown. Wolves quarterback Luke Humphrey finished 6-of-7 passing for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Stephen Reese (19 yards) and Brandon Mangrum (34 yards) hauled in the Humphrey touchdown receptions. Josh Thomas ran in a pair of first-quarter touchdowns that extended the lead to 28-0. Freshman Christian Turner ran for Buford’s final touchdown from three yards out. The Wolves tallied 314 of their 392 total yards of offense in the first half.

Cartersville 41, Cass 7: Host Cartersville turned to runningback Kalin Heath, who rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Heath added eight receptions for 127 yards. The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes played two quarterbacks in Miller Forristall and Trevor Lawrence, who combined to go 17 of 20 passing for 271 passing yards. Tiamon Pennymon had eight carries for 45 yards for the Hurricanes. Kobie Whitfield added five receptions for 75 yards and returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown.

Eagle’s Landing 21 Union Grove 6: After a first half marred with penalties, Eagle’s Landing pulled away. Both teams blocked field goals in the first half. A 36-yard touchdown pass from George McDonald to Andy Constant put Eagle’s Landing up 7-3. Eagle’s Landing put the game out of reach on another touchdown pass from McDonald to Constant, this time for 33 yards. Three turnovers by Union Grove proved to be too much to overcome.

Lithonia 39, Clarkston 7: Oral Varcciann scored two touchdowns and passed for another to lead Lithonia past Clarkston. Varcciann had touchdowns runs of 64 and 48 yards and finished with 165 yards rushing. His touchdown pass covered 56 yards. Lithonia got its first touchdown when Jordan O'Neal recovered a blocked punt in the end zone. Lithonia, which led 39-0 in the fourth quarter, moved to 1-0. Clarkston dropped to 0-2.

Locust Grove 38, Ola 35: Locust Grove came from behind after trailing 35-21 to earn a 38-35 victory. It was a 30-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter that gave Locust Grove the lead for good. Cameron Maddox for Locust Grove totaled more than 300 yards of offense and accounted for three touchdowns for the Wildcats.

Sandy Creek 35, Jonesboro 6: Eric Swinney led the way for the Patriots on the ground rushing for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns. Sandy Creek led 28-0 at half and never looked back. Jonesboro struggled to move the ball, as defensive backs for Sandy Creek combined for three interceptions. Sandy Creek moved to 2-0 on the season.

Whitewater 43 Starr’s Mill 21: Whitewater rode the arm of quarterback Jay Ashley as he threw for four touchdowns, including two to Luke Allen. The first Ashley-Allen strike went for 57 yards while the second was a 1-yard toss. Hunter Worley caught an 18-yard touchdown and Jonathan O’Brien was on the receiving end of a 12-yarder. Christian Wafford scored two touchdowns on the ground on 16- and 2-yard runs.

Woodward Academy 45, Decatur 13: Woodward junior running back Elijah Holyfield had seven touchdowns on 11 carries for 147 yards helping the Eagles to a 45-13 win over visiting Decatur. Holyfield’s longest run of the night was an 84-yard punt return early in the first quarter. Decatur put points on the board late in the second quarter and then in the third with a 35-yard reception.
