Region action will take center stage Tuesday night across the classification as the final month of the regular season revs up down the home stretch. Undefeated Americus-Sumter (13-0, 5-0) will visit Northside-Columbus tonight and will then faceoff with defending state champion Carver-Columbus on Friday. Carver opened this season 0-4, but then strung together 8-straight victories before a 74-57 loss to Cairo over the weekend.

In Region 2-AAAA, Mary Persons and Upson-Lee will meet tonight. Mary Persons is off to a 10-6 overall start and opened up a 2-0 region record with victories over West Laurens (67-59 and Spalding (79-74). Upson-Lee is 1-1 in region play—with a 78-77 win over Howard and a 54-52 loss to Perry.

Cross Creek will travel to Thomson tonight for its Region 3-AAAA opener. The Razorbacks are off to a 12-4 start. As for Thomson, the Bulldogs are 5-6 overall and 0-1 in region play following a 63-54 loss to Baldwin (9-4, 2-0).

No. 1 ranked Woodward Academy will tipoff against Region 4-AAAA rival North Clayton tonight at SkyHawk Arena. The Warhawks carry a 14-1 overall record and a 5-0 region mark into the matchup. As for North Clayton, they are 10-4 overall and 3-3 in region play with losses to Eastside (80-71), McDonough (75-58) and Salem (72-69). Woodward will host Salem on Friday. Salem is 4-1 in region play with its loss coming in a 72-57 defeat to Eastside.

In Region 5-AAAA, Sandy Creek (10-3, 1-0) will travel to Chapel Hill (9-5, 1-0) for a big region clash. Also, undefeated LaGrange (15-0, 2-0) will host Cartersville (5-5, 1-1). LaGrange’s 2-0 start in region play includes a 54-52 win over Central-Carroll and a 45-41 win over Cedartown. Cartersville defeated Cedartown 59-57 last Friday in its region opener, but dropped a 68-61 contest to Central-Carroll on Saturday.

LaFayette is sitting at the top of the Region 6-AAAA standings with a 15-2 start and 6-0 region mark. The Ramblers have already defeated each of its region counterparts this season, including this Friday’s opponent, Heritage-Catoosa (8-8, 5-1) 76-70 on Jan. 12.

Denmark has a chance to inch closer to earning the top seed heading into the Region 7-AAAA tournament tonight with its trip to Marist. The 12-4 Danes are 5-0 in region play are set to square off with Marist (10-5, 4-1). Marist’s region loss was a 48-44 defeat to Blessed Trinity, which lost 64-49 to Denmark, and will be traveling to West Hall (3-9, 1-4) tonight.

In Region 8-AAAA, Stephens County is off tonight, but a pair of region battles awaits with North Oconee (5-11, 1-0) travelling to Madison County (4-13, 1-1) and Oconee County (9-5, 0-2) visiting St. Pius (11-4, 1-0)
