No. 7 Woodward Academy closed out Class A-Private No. 1 Mount Bethel 54-39 on Monday at Maynard Jackson in the King Day Challenge. The War Eagles trailed 34-33 heading into the fourth, before closing out a 21-5 advantage in the final quarter.

The No. 5 Carver-Columbus boys and top-ranked Carver-Columbus girls are on a tear through Region 1-AAAA with just a handful of regular season games left on the slate. The Lady Tigers are 21-0 and 12-0 in region play. The boys are 16-3 boys overall and have battled to improve to 12-0 in region action. One of the boys’ three losses this season did come to Americus-Sumter (80-54), a Region-1 opponent, however, the game was set up as a result of the Lee County Christmas Tournament bracket and did not go against Carver-Columbus’ region record. Following the tournament loss, Carver defeated Americus-Sumter 72-67 on Jan. 11 and 52-49 in overtime this past Saturday.

The Lady Tigers’ have been winning at a much wider rate and defeated Americus-Sumter 77-54 over the weekend.

Elsewhere in the classification, Westover scored a 69-47 win over Northside-Columbus on Saturday. Jordan Brown and Mike Isler Jr. each posted 18 points in the win.

On the girls side, No. 2 Henry County demolished Hampton 67-13 this weekend. Ashley Woodroffe netted 25 points to lead No. 3 Flowery Branch past Marist 64-48 in Region 7-AAAA action. No. 6 West Laurens was led by MaKayla Murray’s 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals in a 54-39 win over East Laurens.
