Here's the week in review in Class AA basketball:

  • Make it 73 consecutive region wins for the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans. The Spartans, who are No. 1 in the state according to AJC rankings and the defending state champs, opened their region schedule this week with two blowout wins over Region 6 opponents. The first came on Thursday in the Spartans' region opener against Hapeville Charter - they won that contest 58-38. On Friday, the Spartans beat Wesleyan 62-17. The Spartans (17-0, 2-0) look to continue their domination in region play on Tuesday at home against Westminster.
  • The Jefferson Dragons - the No. 8 team from Region 8 - reeled in a pair of region wins this week, defeating Rabun County (67-54) and Greene County (63-52). The Dragons are now 3-0 in the region and 11-3 overall. They own an early lead in the region over Rabun County (3-1).
  • Friday's big showdown in Region 6 between the No. 1-ranked Wesleyan Lady Wolves and the sixth-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian Lady Spartans went to the Lady Wolves, who won 54-49 on their home court. The win closed out a 2-0 week in region play for Wesleyan (14-2, 2-0) that included a 67-28 win over Lovett. The Lady Spartans (12-5, 1-1) defeated Hapeville Charter 58-28 earlier in the week.
  • The Bleckley County Lady Royals - ranked No. 8 - have taken early control of Region 4 after a 67-45 win over Lamar County, capping a 2-0 week in region play. Earlier this week, they edged Taylor County 55-49 and are now 5-0 in the region and 10-2 overall.
