The AJC will announce its annual all-state basketball team around March 28.
Below are five boys and five girls candidates for all-classification player of the year along with an opportunity for you to vote on your favorite and give us your opinions.
The selection of all-state and player of the year is based on nominations and recommendations of coaches and media, including those from the AJC who covered games this season. We’d like to get your opinions as well.
BOYS
Jaylen Brown, Wheeler – Brown, a 6-7 forward, led Wheeler to a runner-up finish in Class AAAAA. He averaged 20 points and seven rebounds. Brown is the consensus No. 1 junior prospect in Georgia and No. 10 in the nation, according to 247Sports.
Tookie Brown, Morgan County – Brown, a 5-10 point guard, averaged 26.7 points, five rebounds and four assists in leading his school to its first state championship. He scored 36 in the Class AAA championship game against Buford. Brown, a junior, is committed to Mississippi State.
JaKeenan Gant, Effingham County – Gant averaged 21.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists for a 20-10 team in AAAAA. Gant is the Atlanta Tipoff Club state player of the year. Gant has signed with Missouri.
Tadric Jackson, Tift County – Jackson, a 6-2 guard, averaged 18.8 points, five rebounds and five assists for a team that became the first from South Georgia to win the highest class since 1998. Jackson has signed with Georgia Tech.
Isaiah Wilkins, Greater Atlanta Christian – Wilkins, a 6-7 forward, averaged 18.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 3.5 blocked shots for Georgia's only undefeated team. Wilkins has signed with Virginia.
GIRLS
T e'a Cooper, McEachern – Cooper, a 5-8 point guard, averaged 19.9 points, five steals, six assists and three rebounds for a Class AAAAAA championship team that was nationally ranked. Cooper, who is uncommitted, is a consensus top-10 recruit nationally among juniors.
Erykah Davenport, Tucker – Davenport, 6-2 forward, averaged 13.6 points and 8.8 rebounds and led Tucker to its first-ever state title. She was the Region 6-AAAAA player of the year for the second straight year. Davenport has signed with Miami.
Asia Durr, St. Pius – Durr, a 5-10 guard, averaged 24.4 points, 7.1 rebounds. 2.5 steals and 1.7 assists for the two-time Class AAA champions. Durr is the consensus No. 1 junior recruit nationally. She is uncommitted.
MacKenzie Engram, Hillgrove – Engram, a 6-2 forward, averaged 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds for a 24-5 team in the highest class. She was voted by coaches the Region 4-AAAAAA player of the year. Engram has signed with Georgia.
Kahlia Lawrence, Kendrick – Lawrence, a 5-8 guard, averaged 26.8 points, seven rebounds and 5.5 steals for the Class AA champions that finished undefeated and ended Wesleyan's run of six straight state titles. Lawrence is uncommitted.
