All-region basketball: Barnes, Thompson are players of year in 6-AA

Dondre Barnes of South Atlanta and Nekiyah Thompson of Douglass are the basketball players of the year in Region 6-AA.

Barnes, the boys player of the year, averages 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and three steals for defending state champion South Atlanta.

Thompson, the top girls player, averages 22.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, five steals and five assists for Douglass.
