Upset: Bryan Hollis scored 22 points and fueled a second-half rally to help Veteran upset No. 3 Rutland in boys action on Friday. It is Veterans’ second win over Rutland this season and forged a three-way tie for first place in Region 2-AAAA. Veterans, Rutland and Perry are tied atop the region at 6-2.
Dominant: The top-ranked and undefeated Redan girls rolled over Washington, 62-12, on Friday. Redan is the only undefeated AAAA team, according to the GHSA standings. The 50-point win over Washington adds to the number of eye-opening performances from coach Jerry Jackson’s Raiders this season. They also have a 77-2 win over Cedar Grove and a 105-19 win over Southern High School out of Louisville, Ken. Redan played defending champion Columbia on Saturday night.
Rolling: Jordan Session had 26, and Darius Howard had 20 to lead defending AAAA boys champion Eagle’s Landing to a 78-67 win over Stockbridge on Friday. It was the seventh straight win for Eagle’s Landing, which improved to 10-0 in Region 4-AAAA play.
Strong finish: Columbus’ girls used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Alexander on the road and win their sixth straight game. Alexia Manning had 16 points for the Blue Devils, who are 15-1 and 6-0 in 5-AAAA play.
Clutch: Davion Harvey scored 21 points, and Primetime Hamilton hit a 3-pointer late in the second overtime to lift Crisp County past Worth County, 61-59 in Region 1-AAAA boys action.
Quick start: The eighth-ranked Chestatee girls jumped out to a quick start and cruised to their sixth straight win with a 50-39 victory over Eastside on Friday. Bridgette Kelly had 23 points to lead Chestatee, which sits atop Region 8-AAAA at 4-0.
