John Davis named ACC legend
Former Georgia Tech All-American John Davis, one of the greatest offensive linemen in the school's history, has been named to the 2014 class of ACC Legends. Davis will be honored at the ACC championship game Dec. 6 in Charlotte.
Davis was a four-year starter for the Jackets between 1983-86, moving from offensive tackle as a freshman to center as a sophomore, back to tackle as a junior and then again to center as a senior. Playing for coach Bill Curry, he earned All-America honors as a junior and senior. He is perhaps best remembered for his performance against Clemson All-American William “Refrigerator” Perry in Tech’s 28-21 upset of the No. 13 Tigers in 1984, an effort that earned him the nickname “Refrigerator Mover.”
He went to an eight-year NFL career, including six seasons with the Buffalo Bills, for whom he played in three Super Bowls.
Davis lives in Marietta with his family and is the national scouting coordinator for CSA Prepstar 360. Davis will join 13 other ACC legends in the 2014 class.
