Tim Hardaway Jr. will have a strange start to the season.
The Hawks guard opens the 2015-16 season at home tonight against the Pistons, where his Hall of Fame father is an assistant coach. The second game will pit Hardaway away on Thursday at the Knicks, where he spent his first two NBA seasons before being acquired by the Hawks this summer.
Hardaway Sr. joined the Pistons staff in August of last year. In Junior’s three games against the Pistons last season, he averaged 21 points, scoring 20 points on Nov. 5, 18 on Feb. 27 and 25 on April 15. He was a combined 22 of 41 from the field and 11 of 20 from 3-point range.
“That is true,” Hardaway said of his good performances last season. “It’s been fun and a great ride so far. Hopefully, we can continue it.”
Hardaway said there is no trash talk between he and his father during games.
"He doesn’t chirp too much,” Hardaway said. “He’s still a father at the end of the day and is coaching them.”
Hardaway said he did not want to think about facing the Knicks just yet. He preferred to concentrate on the Pistons first.
