FLOWERY BRANCH -- Quarterback T.J. Yates, who was added last season via a trade with the Houston Texans to give the Falcons a veteran backup to Matt Ryan, has agreed to re-sign a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the team. The Falcons announced his signing on Tuesday.

Also, Falcons defensive tackle Corey Peters has agreed to a three-year contract worth $10.5 million, according to his agent Greg Linton.

Yates played under former Houston coach Gary Kubiak, who gave new Falcons coordinator Kyle Shanahan his start in the league. There should be some system carryover for Yates.

Peters, a former third-round pick in the 2011 draft from out of Kentucky, is set to join linebacker Sean Weatherspoon in the desert.

Peters arguably out-performed both of the Falcons free agent pickups last season in nose tackle Paul Soliai (five-years, $33 million) and defensive end Tyson Jackson (five-years $25 million) last season.

Peters, who was coming off Achilles surgery, played for $1.6 million last season.

The Falcons also drafted defensive end RaShede Hagemen in the second-round last season.

Peter was not listed in Bill Polian’s grading of the free agents in what must have been an oversight.

Pro Football Focus rated Peters as the 55th best free agent.
