FLOWERY BRANCH –Falcons quarterback T.J. Yates, the Marietta native, was elated to re-sign with the team on Tuesday..

“I’m pumped,” Yates said. “I’m happy.”

Yates, who was added last season via a trade with the Houston Texans to give the Falcons a veteran backup to Matt Ryan, agreed to re-sign a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the team.

He’s excited to start work under new offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

“Absolutely, coach Shanahan was in Houston with coach (Gary) Kubiak a couple of years before I got there,” Yates said. “They run the exact same offense. Same words. Everything is verbatim. I was that offense the first three years of my career. Coming here, staying here and being in that offense, is kind of a breath of fresh air for me. It’s what I’ve played in. I actually did play and started games. That’s what I was successful at. I’m very happy to be here.”
