After posting a record-setting 48-33 victory over the Carolina Panthers, the Falcons (3-1) are set to face the undefeated Denver Broncos (4-0) at 4:05 p.m. Sunday in Denver. After playing the Broncos, the Falcons will spend the following week working in Seattle at the University of Washington before facing the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 16.
Here are five things to know about the Falcons on Tuesday:
1. Ryan's world. From Steve Hummer's Further Review blog: "At season's start, there was a sentiment out there – one, that I must admit, more than once rolled around inside the hollow gourd residing upon my neck – that Matt Ryan was now the fourth best quarterback in a four-quarterback division. That this once proud masthead of the franchise was yesterday's flavor, neither flashy enough nor nimble enough to keep up with the Newtons and the Winstons in the neighborhood." Also, Ryan passed for 503 yards in his 130th NFL start. We looked at Ryan, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady's marks at the 130th game milestone.
2. Linebacker moves. The Falcons lost linebacker Sean Weatherspoon for the remainder of the season with a ruptured right Achilles on Monday. They are set to look at the veteran free agency market.
3. Collins returns. The Falcons can now activate cornerback Jalen Collins, who has served a four-game suspension after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. "He's back with the team," Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. "He's done an excellent job. He looked fit when he came back in today. We knew that he'd put the work in during his time away from the team. It was difficult for him to be away from his guys." However, Quinn was not sure when Collins will be able to contribute. "We'll take it all the way through the week and see where he's at as we are getting ready," Quinn said.
4. London bound? We're hearing whispers that the Falcons may be headed back to play in London next season. The Falcons played the Lions in London back in 2014.
5A. Moms clinic. Over 250 Moms have registered for the last Atlanta Falcons Moms Clinic of the Fall which will take place on Wednesday at South Cobb High School in Austell. The event is designed to educate and inform Moms about football safety. Moms will participate in a forum on football safety, proper equipment fitting, concussion awareness, proper tackling techniques and information on supplements.
5B. Road trip. The Falcons are getting ready for their road trip. After playing in Denver, they'll fly to Seattle and practice there for a week leading up to the Sunday, Oct. 16 game. They are set to practice at the University of Washington. "As we went through the offseason, we knew we were going to be playing the AFC West and the NFC West so we thought if we had the opportunity, I know Denver's not on the West coast, but trips we would call out West, we want to do one of those back-to-back," Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. "You can request that through the league, which we did. You don't know which one you're going to get but when we had the opportunity to do that I thought man it came at a great time for us, right at the beginning of the season for our team to spend a whole week together out on the road. I'm really pumped for these guys to have the opportunity to do that."
