FLOWERY BRANCH – Former Stanford outside linebacker James Vaughters, who played at Tucker High and is from Stone Mountain, is set to participate in the Falcons' locals day on April 7.
Vaughters, who had a strong day at Stanford’s pro day on March 20, finished with 51 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks last season.
To say that James Vaughters came into the event as an "under the radar" talent was a tremendous understatement. Vaughters wowed the crowd with his impressive strength, and his superb athletic ability. Vaughters was able to clear 35 reps on the 225lb bench press event, and ran a stellar 4.78 40-yard dash. Several scouts around the event all marveled at how a player with this much athletic prowess was not invited to the National Combine. Head Coach David Shaw added, "James is a great athlete, and just needed the opportunity to showcase his talent." Several scouts made noise that Vaughters went from a late day 3 selection or Free Agent pick up, to an early day 3 selection more than likely."
Vaughters, who was a four-start recruit coming out of Tucker, played immediately as a freshman. Here's a link to his Facebook page.
“When you look at Vaughters, Day 3,” ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said. “But I know how high (the Stanford coaches were) on him. I know what a solid player he had been in their scheme for a number of years. He had some really solid games this year. I think on Day 3 he’ll be a guy who can come in and help you on special teams right away.”
