FLOWERY BRANCH -- Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon is set to sign a one-year contract worth just under $4 million with the Arizona Cardinals, a league source told Rand Getlin of Yahoo. Sports.
Weatherspoon missed all of last season with an Achilles’ injury. Weatherspoon, 6-feet-1 and 241 pounds, has played well when healthy.
Since being selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2010 draft, Weatherspoon has played all 16 games just once.
Weatherspoon, 27, was coming off a tough campaign in 2013. He spent part of the 2013 season on injured reserve/designated to return with a foot injury before making it back, only to exit again with a knee injury.
The Falcons were hoping to re-sign Weatherspoon, but negotiations hit a snag late last week. Both general manager Thomas Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn has expressed their desires to have Weatherspoon return.
