Here’s the Falcons’ draft scenario for today.
OT Greg Robinson or LB Anthony Barr?
The Falcons are picking sixth and don’t want to trade up.
South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney and Texas A&M left tackle Jake Matthews are off the board.
Do the Falcons select Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson or UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr?
Our pal Jamie Dukes, on the Rick (Kamla) & Jamie show on 92.9 The Game on Monday said he likes Robinson over Matthews and would take him with the No. 6th pick.
Dukes, the former Falcon (1986-93) started 103 of 124 games in 10 season in the NFL, knows his line prospects.
Robinson, a massive 6-foot-5, 320-pounder, is a top-10 talent and is ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper’s second-rated tackle.
“Greg Robinson, a third-year sophomore left tackle at Auburn, has done a spectacular job,” Kiper said on a recent teleconference. “I love the way he goes out and just takes pride in his work. He’s a mature kid and professional in terms of his approach and his demeanor. He just has great talent at 6-5, 320. He’s light on his feet. He has everything that you want.”
Kiper has Robinson rated as the ninth-best player on his “Big Board.”
After former Falcons coach Jim Mora Jr. converted Barr to a linebacker, his career at UCLA took off. He had 13.5 sacks as a junior and returned for his senior season and had 10 sacks. He would fit in the Falcons’ defense at the hybrid defensive end/linebacker that Kroy Biermann was playing.
When Biermann went down last season, the Falcons had no one to play that spot. Barr has the speed to drop and cover, can come off the edge and play the run in a stout manner.
He has elite pass-rushing skills and one NFL Scout compared him to Green Bay’s Clay Matthews III.
It was pretty clear yesterday that the masses wanted Clowney over Matthews .
