It’s been pretty warm lately but with tropical air funneling in, Georgians may want to bring out their flannel shirts Saturday morning, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

By 8 a.m., Atlanta will reach 71 degrees but will quickly increase to 84 degrees by noon, Burns said. The afternoon high is 89 degrees, and there is no rain in the forecast for the Labor Day weekend.

“If you’re looking to go fishing (Saturday), it’s a great day for that,” Burns added.

For Georgians planning to hit the road for the holiday weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending construction that requires lane closures on interstates until 5 a.m. Tuesday. GDOT said major highways that receive heavy traffic from tourists will also have limited lane closures.

However, there will still be rolling closures that drivers will want to avoid. From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be rolling closures on I-285 West near Ashford Dunwoody Road, GDOT said. All southbound lanes of the interstate will also undergo rolling closures from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Memorial Drive.

Georgians planning to stay in Atlanta for the holiday weekend can expect sunshine on Sunday, with low humidity and milder temperatures, Burns said. Temperatures will reach a high of 87 degrees and a low of 67 degrees, according to the latest Channel 2 forecast.

Monday will be similar, with lows in the mid-60s and afternoon highs in the upper 80s.
