North Georgia should remain cooler than normal this week, but it will also be stuck with the clouds and daily rain chances, too.
The chance of rain Monday is 40%, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon. While rain is possible at any time throughout the day, Deon said the region’s best shot at a thunderstorm won’t arrive until later Monday evening, when a cold front comes through.
“As far as the impact it’s going to have on your day, I give it about a two (out of three),” she said. “A medium impact, not a washout, but some of you will be dealing with rain at times, especially as we go through the afternoon and evening.”
There is not much rain activity early Monday, but Deon expects the sprinkles and showers to ramp up by midmorning. She is also expecting to see some breaks in the clouds, which will allow temperatures to rise into the low to mid-80s.
Atlanta’s projected high is 83 degrees, which is well below the average 89 degrees typically recorded this time of year. Highs in the low 80s are more like early fall weather, but it certainly won’t feel like fall with elevated humidity and rain around.
“By the time 3 p.m. rolls around, a lot of kids are getting out of school, you might have to meet them at the bus stops in spots,” Deon said. “We’re not expecting to see an all-out, widespread rain event, but we are going to be dealing with some storms in the area.”
She expects to see more thunderstorm activity Monday evening as the front arrives in North Georgia from the north and west. Tuesday will be a bit drier, as rain chances drop back to 30%, but rain moves back in on Wednesday, according to the latest forecast.
Rain chances are running in the 30% to 40% range all week, Deon said.
“We’re going to be kind of in and out of those wet times over the next couple of days,” she said, adding that the daily rain and lower-than-average temperatures should carry through into the weekend.
