Rain should be isolated Friday as high humidity is on its way out and drier air is moving in for what Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said will be a nice weekend for all of North Georgia.
Some showers and storms will linger Friday, but Monahan said they will mostly impact communities south of I-20. The region is starting to dry out after several days of scattered storms, and by the weekend there should be no rain to worry about.
“Drier air is already moving in. It’s going to be a beautiful day in Blairsville, and Calhoun, and down in Cherokee County today,” Monahan said. “It will take a little while longer on the Southside. By tomorrow, though, it should be pretty good.”
The weather conditions Friday morning may not look all that different from those earlier this week. There is still some humidity, a few morning sprinkles and even areas of fog for the morning drive.
Temperatures are in the 70s to start the day in Atlanta. On Saturday morning, Monahan said the city could be waking up to temperatures in the 60s for the first time since June.
Saturday’s projected low is 69, and numbers should fall even further Sunday morning for a low of 66 degrees in Atlanta, according to the latest forecast.
“It’s been a little while since we’ve felt some slightly cooler weather,” Monahan said. “The reason this is happening: A cold front is coming in that’s going to blow in drier air this afternoon, but not before we still see some storms on the Southside.”
Showers and storms will be 30% likely this afternoon south of the city, he said, which is considered isolated. Some areas of rain could stick around through the overnight hours before the cold front clears the region.
Friday’s projected high is 88 degrees for Atlanta. This weekend, Monahan is expecting a mix of clouds and sun with highs each day in the mid-80s.
“We look really good for a walk, any outdoor plans, any outdoor activities for Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
