A fatal crash Tuesday that began as road rage in Gwinnett County left southbound lanes of I-85 closed for hours, officials said.

Georgia State Patrol troopers were called to the interstate between Steve Reynolds Boulevard and Beaver Ruin Road about 3:40 p.m. regarding the rollover wreck, GSP spokeswoman Courtney Floyd said. Lanes were shut down until about 6:30 p.m.

Witnesses told troopers that the incident began as road rage between the drivers of a white Nissan SUV and another white car. At some point, the two vehicles collided and the car hit the concrete barrier, overturning multiple times and ejecting the driver, Floyd said.

Images taken from traffic cameras showed a white sedan badly damaged but resting alone in the center of the interstate. The driver’s name has not been released and Gwinnett police have not said if anyone would be charged.
