Ford Higgins (Charles Kingsbury/AJC)
Ford Higgins, a two-way lineman at Greater Atlanta Christian, committed to Navy back in July.
Of course, it’s only natural that he chose the Midshipman over Army.
“The academy and what it offers with academics and football is unreal,” Higgins said. “I feel that it’s right for me. When I went there, the coaches were wonderful. I really felt at home.”
Though it was a close decision, Higgins cited Navy’s engineering program as one of his deciding factors.
Higgins last visited Navy during the summer and says the coaching staff envisions using him primarily on the offensive line. However, they didn’t rule the possibility of playing on defense, either.
“The position didn’t affect my decision,” Higgins said. “I’ll play wherever they want me, honestly.”
Higgins is the second player from GAC to commit to Navy in the last two seasons. His former teammate Paul Carothers committed there last year.
Higgins also had an offer from Davidson.
