From a PR standpoint, it's been an up-and-down 48 hours for Vanderbilt. After releasing its new helmet design to rave reviews yesterday, today the Commodores found themselves in a bit of hot water after tweeting out a picture and an all-caps message which read, "We are relentless, tough and intelligent, and…. We don't need your permission!"
Though, presumably, whoever tweeted this on behalf of @VandyFootball wasn't referencing the serious rape allegations involving two of its former players, the wording and all-caps of the post made the Commodores an easy target for criticism. As a result, they took down the post and have issued an apology.
Okay, thank you for the clarification. Now we can go back to focusing on those new helmets, which will make the Commodores look just a little better when they go winless in the SEC for a second straight season. It already seems so long ago since the James Franklin Era in Nashville.
