Washington State coach Mike Leach wants a 64-team playoff

Can you imagine a 60-plus team playoff in college football like they do for March Madness?

There are many advocates for the expansion of the College Football Playoff, most notably Washington State coach Mike Leach.

Leach – who has preached about a 64-team playoff for some time – got his chance to enlighten us yesterday at the mothership as Pac-12 coaches took part in ESPN’s “Car Wash.”

"It's remarkably easy," Leach said via ESPN. "If you had 64, there wouldn't be a lot of debate. … It would be indisputable that it was settled on the field and somebody that wins playoff games accordingly deserves to be champion and there's no debate."

If it were Leach’s way, he would reduce the season to 10 games and the first round of the playoffs would be a home-and-home series. The two teams that would advance to the CFB Championship would appear in their 16th game of the year, one more than Ohio State and Oregon did last season.

While I’m not saying this is a bulletproof plan, let’s give the guy some credit. He clearly thought this through.

Personally, I think expanding the College Football Playoff almost to the size of March Madness would be a terrible idea. But that’s just me.
