Ex-Florida State QB De'Andre Johnson got national attention for all of the wrong reasons.

Johnson, who was kicked off the team for a punching a woman in the face, was regretful in his first public interview since the incident.

“There’s no explanation for that. I totally should have walked away,” Johnson said in an interview with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan. “I am ashamed of that. I’m sorry. I apologize to the lady in the incident, to her family, to my family, to my mother. I know I wasn’t raised that way.

“If I could do it all over again, I would.”

The attorney for the former Seminole released a statement shortly after his dismissal stating Johnson is participating in community service, and faith-based programs focused on battered women, substance abuse, and the empowerment of children.

Johnson was charged with misdemeanor battery after the state’s attorney office viewed the video evidence. He turned himself into authorities on June 30.

The freshman was originally suspended from the team on June 25 for “a violation of athletic department policy.” He was expected to compete for the backup quarterback position.
