Here's the breakdown of UGA's newest commitment by former Bulldogs great Terrence Edwards for the AJC:
The state of North Carolina has been good to UGA’s recruiting efforts over years, producing former Bulldog greats such as Todd Gurley, Tim Worley and Mohamed Massaquoi.
UGA went back there this week to beat out UNC in a head-to-head battle for Garrett Walston, a 3-star tight end from Wilmington, N.C.

Specs: 6-foot-4, 220 pounds
College: Committed to UGA over UNC on Tuesday
The first thing that jumps out on film: "One thing that is very noticeable about Garrett is that he has the ability to take a short screen pass and turn it into explosive play or a long touchdown."
What else I like: "His soft hands are very noticeable on film. He snatches the ball out the air at its highest point and that tells me that he has strong and confident hands. Garrett is a very versatile tight end. He not only lines up in the normal tight end position but he also flexes out and run routes from the receiver position. He's a very good route runner and he understands Man vs. Zone route concepts.
Where he needs to improve: "First, his his blocking abilities. At the University of Georgia, the tight end not only catches passes, but they have to be very good blockers in the run game. I also would like to see him add a few pounds to his 6-4 frame. As he matures and continue to grow, he will have to add weight and muscle to be able to block bigger SEC defensive ends and outside linebackers."
Is his 3-star ranking fitting? "I think his 3-star rating is below his talent level. I see a guy who understand route concepts, has the ability to make big plays down the field, and has very sure hands.
How I expect UGA to use him: "Early in his UGA career, I expect Garrett to be used more as tight end to catch passes rather than be a blocker at the end of the offensive line."
Who he reminds me of that played at UGA: "Coming out of high school, Garrett reminds me of Jeb Blazevich. Both players are more of pass catchers than blockers at the start of their college careers. UGA should be very excited about adding a commitment from a very talented tight end like Garrett Walston."
Terrance Edwards starred at UGA from 1999 to 2002, finishing his Bulldogs career as the SEC’s all-time leading receiver in yards and No 2 in receptions. Edwards still holds several UGA receiving records. He played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2003, and recently retired after nine seasons in the CFL.
