5-star Terry Godwin stuck with UGA over Auburn on signing day (247sports)
A 5-star UGA football signee will work out for the Atlanta Braves on Thursday.
Terry Godwin is the two-sport star from Callaway High School who signed a football scholarship with UGA last February.
Godwin also plays baseball, and he has quietly emerged as a “sleeper” prospect for next month’s MLB Draft.
The senior third baseman will report to Turner Field at 8 a.m. Thursday for a private workout. He’ll take batting practice, field ground balls, run the 60-yard dash, and go through a series of drills for a few hours.
“It’s a great opportunity, and I’m looking forward to showing the Braves what I can do,” Godwin told the AJC on Wednesday night.
The Braves will be Godwin's second MLB workout of the week. On Monday, Godwin showed off his skills for the Texas Rangers at Woodstock High School. Also in attendance was ELCA outfielder Daz Cameron, the son of former All-Star Mike Cameron who could be the first Georgia high schooler taken in the draft.

For the Rangers, Godwin lined up at third base, shortstop, second base, centerfield, and right field.
“What we stress to people from the start is that baseball is something that Terry loves,” his mother told the AJC. “That was one of the reasons he went with UGA. They talked about the opportunity for him to play both football and baseball there. And that was big part of him signing with UGA.”
Will Godwin get drafted? And if so, how high? That’s unknown. His name doesn’t show up on many lists for prospects in Georgia, and only three teams took the time to approach Godwin’s baseball coach for background information – the Braves, the Rangers and the Marlins.
At this point, this seems to be the most likely scenario: If Godwin is drafted, it would be with a late pick where there is little risk (the baseball draft goes on forever, like 40 rounds). However, if Godwin blows away the Braves (or Rangers earlier in the week), then things could change in hurry.

“Basically, what we’re hearing is that Terry is like a needle in a haystack with the scouts,” his mother said.
Is there a chance that Godwin might not play football at UGA this season? And what do the Bulldog football coaches think about this baseball stuff? Godwin’s mother said she hasn’t really talked to any coaches since February, but that her son will report to UGA on Monday morning as scheduled for summer school.
And the plan is definitely to play football this season — unless something crazy happens in the draft.
“I can’t wait to see him in Sanford Stadium playing, I’m ready for that,” his mother said. “Then all of sudden, we may get this baseball opportunity. As you can imagine, we thought all the pressure was over. We want whatever is best for Terry. We’ll just have to see how everything plays out.”

Here are Godwin’s final baseball stats from this season: .275 batting average with two homers and 14 RBIs. He had 22 hits in 80 at-bats, along with 16 stolen bases. He was 1-1 as a pitcher with a 1.48 ERA.
