Ohio State won the national championship Monday night and, obviously, finished No. 1 in the final AP Top 25, but Georgia and Georgia Tech pulled a rare feat.
The Yellow Jackets finished No. 8 and the Bulldogs are No. 9 in the final poll, the first time since 1966 that both teams finished in the top 10.
It’s also Georgia Tech’s highest finish since it was second in the AP poll in 1990, which was the season the Yellow Jackets won the coaches’ national championship.
The Buckeyes were the fourth seed heading into the inaugural College Football Playoff before upsetting No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Oregon to win the title.
The Buckeyes finished on top of the AP Top 25 for the fifth time in program history, matching Miami and Southern California for fourth most behind Alabama (nine), Notre Dame (eight) and Oklahoma (seven).
