Downpours hit the metro area early Friday evening with widespread rains in Cobb and Fulton County.
Scattered showers touched parts on the metro areas about 4 p.m., leading to a severe thunderstorm warning.
Earlier, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb and Paulding counties.
Rains will continue into Saturday with a 60 percent chance of showers in the evening, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Rain, however, won’t usher in cooler weather.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 80s in to next week when rain chances drop to 20 percent.
Currently, the temperature is 88 degrees in Atlanta. The expected high is 89, which is the average high for this time of year.
