The rain showers and storms that started Saturday night returned in a second round Sunday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologists.

Downpours started in metro Atlanta about 2:30 p.m. and are expected to continue into the evening, meteorologist Katie Walls said.

“While a nuisance, remember rain is a good thing!,” Walls said.

The ongoing drought makes it so that every bit of rain helps.

The highs in the 80s that we saw Saturday aren’t expected to repeat Sunday as wet weather is keeping temps cool.

“We’re running about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday and that is a trend I expect to continue,” Walls said.

Temperatures will be in the 60s for most of Sunday.

Current temperatures are 62 degrees in Atlanta, 56 in Blairsville and 62 in LaGrange.

The threat for isolated strong to severe storms remains through the afternoon for most of north Georgia.
