Rain chances may be elevated, but don’t count Tuesday out just yet.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said the wet weather pattern that began Tuesday is not like the one that kept the city socked in the rain over the past several weeks. There is a 60% chance of rain in the forecast, but there will be some sunshine, too.
“It is not going to rain all day,” Monahan said. “In fact, several spots may get through today with next to no rain, especially on the Southside. But have the umbrella handy through the day with that chance for rain in the forecast.”
A system sent some steadier showers over metro Atlanta during the morning drive, but Monahan said showers will become more isolated in the afternoon.
“Really most of the week, we'll have the opportunity for rain the rest of the way,” he said.
Only about a half-inch of rainfall is expected Tuesday, according to Channel 2. By Thursday, some areas in northwest Georgia and in the mountains could pick up an inch or two.
At midday Tuesday, spotty showers and sprinkles were left behind across metro Atlanta in advance of a cold front, Monahan said.
While an umbrella may be warranted, a heavy coat is not. Atlanta is staying warm in the mid-50s.
“We'll be in the mid- to a few upper 60s later today,” Monahan said. “It gets even warmer as the week goes on. There will also be a chance for a few storms mixed in, too, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but near 70, that’s like early April kind of weather.”
Tuesday’s projected high is 66 degrees, according to Channel 2. The highs are expected to climb a few degrees each day through the end of the week, with Thursday and Friday reaching 71.
“Into the weekend, we’re tracking a little bit cooler weather moving in with highs in the mid-60s,” Monahan said.
There are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Surface streets are a little slow, however.
Daytime construction was causing delays on North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County, the Traffic Center reported. Crews were blocking a right westbound lane before the ramp to I-85 at lunchtime.
In Fulton County, roadwork was blocking a southbound lane of Peachtree Road at Collier Road, according to the Traffic Center. There were delays getting into Midtown.
