A tropical storm moving near Nicaragua is expected to bring gusty winds, humidity and rain to parts of Georgia.

Tropical Storm Nate, which was recently upgraded from a tropical depression, is forecast to move over the northwest Caribbean Thursday night and reach northwest Georgia Saturday into Sunday, according to Channel 2 Action News. The storm has potential to become a Category 1 hurricane.

The impacts to Georgia include tropical humidity, wind speeds up to 30 mph and between two and four inches of rain, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

High pressure should keep the bulk of strong winds west of metro Atlanta.

“But as Nate makes progress toward the Gulf Coast, that moisture is going to start moving our way,” Minton said.

Clouds and breezy conditions are expected to increase Saturday.

There is a 70 percent chance of showers and storms Sunday and Monday, Channel 2 reported.
