North Georgia is not quite done with the rain Thursday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Some showers remain as a system that brought heavy rain and storms Wednesday afternoon and evening continues to move off to the east. While a passing cold front should clear away the early showers, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said there is a 30% chance more could pop up Thursday afternoon.

Overall, the chance is pretty small, he said. It will be cool and breezy, and there will still be some sunshine to mix into the forecast, according to Channel 2.

“If that’s not good enough for you, I think Friday, Saturday and Sunday are going to be great days for you to get outside as we start the month of May with some pretty outstanding weather,” Monahan said.

Several dry and warm days are in the forecast to begin the new month, he said. Through April, metro Atlanta has seen above-average rainfall amounts with more than 2.5 feet of rain.

Wednesday’s downpours added another three-tenths of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

“We're about a third of the way through the year, and in a typical year we see about 50 inches of rain,” Monahan said. “We've had two-thirds of the rain we typically see in an entire year in just four months.”

Any rain that falls Thursday will likely be isolated and light, he said. After the cold front passes through, temperatures should be capped in the 60s for much of North Georgia. Atlanta’s projected high is 66, according to Channel 2.

"The jet stream is going to give us temperatures that are right about 10 degrees below average,” Monahan said. “You likely will need long sleeves or a jacket through much of the day today, and the breeze is going to make it feel even cooler.”

A big warmup is in store by the weekend. Friday’s projected high of 73 is more typical of this time of year, and temperatures are forecast to keep climbing over the next few days.

“Saturday and Sunday, the warmest air of the year will be here as we push off into the 80s across North Georgia,” Monahan said. “We could have a few spots near 90 by Sunday afternoon.”
