5 things to know about the floods in Texas, Oklahoma

1. 12 missing in central Texas. Authorities continued a grim search for 12 people missing after being swept from riverfront homes in Wimberley, the American-Statesman reports. Eight of the missing people, including small children, were from the same group of Corpus Christi residents who were visiting Wimberley for the Memorial Day weekend, relatives and leaders of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Corpus Christi said. 3. Homes destroyed; residents displaced. In Texas, more than 1,000 homes were destroyed and 2,000 residents were forced to leave their homes, the AP reports. Click here for more information about damage reported in Oklahoma.

4. Deadly tornado strikes Ciudad Acuna. Authorities said 13 people were dead and five missing after a twister struck Ciudad Acuna, a city just over the Texas-Mexico border, according to the AP. Officials said 300 people were injured and as many as 200 homes were destroyed.

5. Emergency declarations made. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the storms brought a punch that "you cannot candy coat" and declared a disaster area in 24 counties, including Bastrop and Hays, the American-Statesman reports. In Oklahoma, a state of emergency remained in effect for 44 counties. Gov. Mary Fallin requested a federal disaster declaration last week for Cleveland, Grady and Oklahoma counties, according to KOKI-TV.
