Metro Atlanta’s unseasonably warm afternoon weather will continue into the weekend, but there’s a good chance of rain by late Sunday, forecasters said.

While Wednesday began on a chilly note, with temperatures mostly in the 30s, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said highs will be in the mid-60s Wednesday and Thursday, and in the low 70s Friday through Sunday.

Morning lows will be in the low 50s Thursday and Friday, and weekend lows will be in the mid-50s – the normal high for this part of December and well above the normal low of 38.

Minton said there’s a very slight chance of a passing shower Wednesday afternoon, particularly across the mountain counties of north Georgia.

The rest of the work week will be dry, but there’s a 60 percent chance of rain late in the day on Sunday.

There’s a “potential for storms that could be quite strong” Sunday night into Monday, Minton said.
