After a chilly start, Saturday will be sunny, breezy and unseasonably cool for your outside activities and for road work.
“Temperatures will top out in the mid 60s,” according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz. He noted that the average high this time of year is 74.
The unseasonably cool temperatures will extend through Sunday, when it will again be mostly sunny and breezy. Morning lows will be in the upper 30 to mid 40s, and the high will be near 70 degrees.
“I expect 69 for a high tomorrow,” Nitz said.
The cool weather comes in time for this weekend’s full slate of spring festivals — and give road crews dry conditions for several construction projects around town.
The dry conditions will be welcomed by those headed to such outdoor events as the Atlanta Dogwood Festival at Piedmont Park, the Sweetwater 420 Fest in Candler Park, the Big Shanty Festival in downtown Kennesaw, the Sandy Springs Artsapalooza along Lake Forrest Drive and Dunwoody’s Lemonade Days at Brook Run Park.
The dry weather will also be conducive for road construction, and the state Department of Transportation has several projects going on this weekend that will shut down interstate lanes.
In the Cobb Cloverleaf area, up to three lanes of I-285 in each direction will be closed between Paces and Powers Ferry roads, while the ramp from I-75 southbound to I-285 westbound will be closed all weekend.
Also on the top-end Perimeter, the two left lanes of I-285 eastbound will be closed from Roswell Road to Ashford Dunwoody Road, while two westbound lanes will be shut down from east of Ashford Dunwoody to Riverside Drive.
North of Marietta, police will be pacing traffic, or at times shutting down all lanes, on I-75 in both directions between Ga. 5 and North Marietta Parkway from 7 to 8 a.m. on Saturday.
In Atlanta, up to two lanes of Ga. 400 north and southbound will be closed near Lenox Road.
