As heavy, violent storms continue across the country, some in the path of such weather have captured amazing feats of nature.
Stephen Peterson photographed a phenomenon known as "hail streaks" on his drive home Tuesday, and posted the image to Facebook.
According to Weather.com, hail streaks form when hail falls out of a strong thunderstorm as the storm moves. The contrast of this with the sun breaking through the clouds creates the image Peterson captured.
Although it looks beautiful from afar, because hail is forming and falling in the streaks, it is dangerous to be in the middle. The streaks can cause a long line of damage.
Hail that fell in the Colorado Springs area was as large as 1.25 inches in diameter.
