Here’s a word that few Georgians have said over the past two weeks: cool.

However, that’s the word Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Glenn Burns used to describe Saturday morning. He said it’ll be cool — by comparison.

“We have not seen any typical morning lows for a long time across North Georgia,” Burns said.

Saturday’s low temperature should bottom out at 66 degrees, which is about the seasonal norm for early June. The afternoon heat will still exceed averages for this time of year, but Burns said a few weather patterns will help make this weekend “perfect” for Atlanta.

What’s driving the cooler temperatures is a cold front moving into southeastern Georgia.

“Behind it, we have an area of high pressure — not like the one that gave us that intense heat — but this one is coming out of Canada and will actually drop our temperatures (Saturday) morning.”

The area of high pressure should keep the rain at bay and the humidity low for the first half of the weekend.

Though the first day of June started off cool, Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said it will still warm up to the high 80s in Atlanta by this afternoon.

“We have a lot of sunshine and we’re eventually going to get the heat,” Deon said. “The good news is we won’t have as much humidity. It should be very comfortable as you’re out and about.”

High temperatures should stay in the high 80s until Wednesday, when Atlanta breaks the 90-degree mark once again. It’ll also stay dry until then, which means Wednesday will have an added hit of humidity as well.

With no rain in the forecast this weekend, baseball fans can rejoice. People planning to attend the Braves game against the Detroit Tigers at 4:10 p.m. Saturday at SunTrust Park might have to endure some Cobb County traffic, but won’t have to bring a raincoat.

Cherokee County residents may see some delays in Woodstock as graduation ceremonies kick off at Woodstock First Baptist Church, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. Woodstock High’s ceremony begins at 9 a.m and River Ridge seniors will graduate at 1 p.m.
