If you’re a fan of dry weekends, today probably isn’t for you.
There’s a 100% chance of rain forecast across North Georgia Saturday, and up to 2 inches of rainfall could accumulate in the mountain counties, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
While it should be soggy for much of the day, the weather is not expected to be severe.
Temperatures should peak pretty early in the day, Burns said. The expected high is 65 degrees, which Atlanta should hit before the heavier showers move in around noon.
The good news is that the wet weather won’t stick around forever.
“Don’t let the rain get you down because we’re not going to have it around all weekend,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “In fact, not even all day long, but it does look like we’re off to a dreary start.”

Most of metro Atlanta should see up to an inch, and the trio of in-state college football games will be wet ones, Deon warned. At 2 p.m., Georgia State hosts South Alabama and Gardner-Webb will visit Kennesaw State.
Those heading to Athens to see the University of Georgia host Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. will catch heavier rainfall as a cold front pushes through the state during the afternoon.
“The front will be knocking at the door, and it’ll be fairly warm to start the game,” Burns said. “But from halftime until the end of the game, we’re looking at the wind picking up, the rain stopping and temperatures cooling down.”
If weather permits, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several construction projects scheduled that will slow down Ga. 400 and I-20.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., a right northbound lane of Ga. 400 will be blocked at Lenox Road. The southbound exit ramp to Abernathy Road from the freeway will also be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The I-20 exit ramp to Riverside Parkway will also be blocked for roadwork today between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m, according to GDOT.
Marietta police also said there will be lane closures near WellStar Kennestone Hospital from 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday. Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Sunday should be completely different from Saturday, with Atlantans waking up to temperatures in the mid-40s and no chance of rain in the forecast. However, the projected high is only 56 degrees, which is nearly 10 degrees cooler than most of the previous week.
That cooldown will be brief though, as North Georgia warms back into the 60s by Tuesday, setting up a warmer-than-average Thanksgiving Day.
