Sunday’s chilly, dry air is expected to give way to more rain early in the week, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists say.

Since early this morning, clouds have been thickening and the metro Atlanta area has a chance for some patchy drizzle later this afternoon into the evening, meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

"With the clouds, temperatures will stay in the 40s for most of North Georgia today,” Monahan said.

Cooler weather in the 40s is expected this afternoon with a chance of showers at 10 percent.

As a cold front approaches, Monahan expects an area of showers across at least the North Georgia mountains Monday morning during the commute. These showers should gradually settle southward toward metro Atlanta, but not everyone will see rain.

"Expect another round of showers Tuesday into at least early Wednesday," Monahan said. "These will likely be a bit more widespread."

Rainfall through midday Wednesday is expected to average a half inch or less most areas.
