Must-see: Dazzling 'fire rainbow' brightens the South Carolina sky

South Carolina residents were treated to a stunning sight Sunday: a phenomenon known as a "fire rainbow."

According to Amusing Planet, fire rainbows, also known as circumhorizontal arcs, are "formed by hexagonal, plate-shaped ice crystals in high-level cirrus clouds." The sun must be at an angle higher than 58 degrees when the light hits the crystals, forming what appears to be a rainbow cloud in the sky, AccuWeather reports.
