The weather may be mild, but traffic hasn’t been Monday afternoon, especially along I-285.

Two crashes are affecting the Perimeter on the Southside, including a wreck blocking the right shoulder of the outer loop at Jonesboro Road, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Delays span back to I-85.

On I-75 North, a right lane is blocked at I-285 in Clayton County, which is further congesting the area, the Traffic Center reported.

On the opposite side of Atlanta, a right lane of I-85 North is blocked near Ga. 317 in Suwanee, creating delays back to Sugarloaf Parkway, according to the Traffic Center.

North Georgia is settling into a milder weather pattern this week. A stretch of sunshine and comfortable temperatures is in store the next couple of days, according to Channel 2 Action News. Monday has hit its projected high of 62 degrees.

“It will be a pretty nice afternoon for us, with a mostly clear to partly cloudy sky overnight ,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “Really, a pretty quiet week all the way through Thursday.”

Most of North Georgia started in the 30s and 40s, while Atlanta began the day in the 50s.

“Overall, the trend for the afternoon (this week) will be more and more sunshine breaking through,” Monahan said.

Tuesday’s morning drive will have a chance for a few light sprinkles, according to Channel 2. More morning fog and highs in the low 60s are in the forecast.

By Thursday, Atlanta will really be warming up.

“Last Wednesday, we had highs in the 30s and 40s,” Monahan said. “This Wednesday, we're getting close to 70 in a few spots.”

The reason for the big swing in temperatures is the source of the air. Last week, North Georgia was inundated with an Arctic cold front. The air flowing in this week is coming from the Pacific Ocean, Monahan said.

North Georgia should stay pretty dry, too, all week. Monahan said there could be some trace amounts of rainfall, but most of the heavier rain will stay to the north and west of the state.

“That will change, though, over the weekend,” he said. “Friday night, we've got some rain moving into northwest Georgia. Plan on Saturday being at least partially wet as a cold front comes in.”

Sunday should be the best weekend day for outdoor plans, he said.
