MONDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Cristobal sends humidity, chance of showers

As Cristobal makes its way up the middle part of the country as a tropical depression, North Georgia is not likely to get any rain directly associated with the system.

But there will be plenty of tropical moisture to make the summer heat oppressive and fuel a stray shower, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said. Temperatures are already in the mid-70s to start off the week.

By the end of the day Monday, metro Atlanta could see temperatures near 90 degrees.

“Muggy and tropical,” Monahan said. “It’s going to feel warmer than it actually is because of all that humidity today.”

While Cristobal’s rain bands will stay well to the west, some showers and storms are possible with the heating of the afternoon Monday, according to Channel 2. The rain chance is a low 30%.

The western counties will have the best chance at a few showers after lunchtime, Monahan said. The morning should stay dry for most.

“Out the door today, I would pack the umbrella,” he said. “You will need it at times in a few spots today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Have the sunglasses, too, as we'll be mixing in some of that sunshine.”

Tuesday has the highest chance of rain this week at 60%, according to Channel 2. Monahan said showers and storms will be more widespread Tuesday afternoon after another dry start.

Quieter weather moves in for the second half of the week, he said. A mainly dry forecast is in store for the weekend, according to Channel 2.

There are no complaints yet on metro Atlanta interstates as the work week kicks off Monday, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

No major delays have been reported as of 6 a.m. Even the ride on the Downtown Connector is delay-free in both directions, the Traffic Center reported.
