The sun did its job by warming Atlanta into the low 60s this afternoon, and even though it should drop into the upper 30s overnight, it remains in the upper 50s for now.

Those on the roads won’t notice or likely care, though, since they’re battling traffic across Metro Atlanta.

A wreck that blocked two lanes of I-85 South near Steve Reynolds Boulevard in Gwinnett County has been moved to the shoulder, but heavy delays remain, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

In Fulton County, the southbound shoulder of the Downtown Connector near I-20 is blocked by a wreck, causing delays, the Traffic Center reported.

Construction limits southbound travel on Peachtree Road at Pharr Road, the Traffic Center reported. Headed north on Peachtree, crews have blocked at least one lane between Pharr Road and Paces Ferry Road.

The break from rain should last through Wednesday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. Thursday is expected to be wet most of the day, and Friday will see more scattered showers, Minton said. About an inch of rainfall is forecast.

The reprieve from the rain is thanks to an area of high pressure sitting over the middle part of the country, she said. But once the weather system slips off the East Coast, it sets up North Georgia for rain.

“Rain is going to start impacting us on Thursday and we are going to see it in the morning, spreading through the afternoon,” she said. “Your evening commute is wet.”

On Friday, the rain should not be as widespread, she said. Thursday’s rain chance is 80 percent, while Friday’s is 60, according to Channel 2.

The rain is expected to clear out by Friday evening ahead of what should be “a really great weekend,” Minton said.

“Chilly both Saturday and Sunday morning but reaching highs in the 50s both days,” she said.

Temperatures are not expected to dip down to freezing all week.

“With the high in place, we're going to have lots of sunshine,” Minton said.

Winds from the northwest are expected to hit around 10-15 mph. Minton said the breeze should start to back off heading into the evening.
