Metro Atlanta is getting hotter and hotter.

Temperatures were 91 degrees in Atlanta, 83 degrees in Blairsville and 91 degrees in Griffin just before 5 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News.

Tuesday’s expected high is 91 degrees, and temperatures are trending upward for the rest of the week.

“This is not going to be the hottest day this week,” meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Highs are expected to increase one degree each day, reaching 95 degrees Saturday.

“Make sure you have sunscreen on, and take some breaks from the heat,” Minton said.

Muggy conditions will soon replace the dry early summer days metro areas experienced this week.

“So say goodbye to the dry air as we gradually bring more and more moisture our way,” Minton said. “The humidity will be increasing as we head through the day on Wednesday.”

Rain chances, however, will remain low.

Isolated showers on the way in far north Georgia likely won’t trickle down to metro Atlanta. There is a 10 percent chance of rain for the metro area through Thursday.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
