The weather this last weekend of February should be very nice, and not too many highway lanes will be closed for construction.
Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said Saturday will be sunny, with highs in the mid-60s after a chilly start with lows in the upper 30s. Clouds will increase Sunday, but the chance of rain by the end of that day is only 20 percent. Highs Sunday will be around 67, after morning lows around 43.
More good news, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation: While GDOT will take advantage of the weather to make progress on several construction projects, most lane closings are scheduled for the overnight hours.
The big exception will be on I-85 between Clairmont and Lenox roads, where a couple of left lanes will be closed in each direction throughout the weekend.
The biggest nighttime closures will be on I-75/85 northbound, where three left lanes will be closed from Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to Pine Street, and on I-285 westbound from Northside Drive to Hollowell Parkway, where sign replacements will shut down three left lanes each night.
The biggest of this weekend’s events is probably the Saturday’s Supercross motorcycle races that begin at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.
Next door to the dome, Philips Arena will host a Demi Lovato concert Friday night, while Saturday night, the Hawks take on the New York Knicks.
In Midtown, expect big crowds around the Fox Theatre for Friday night’s Robin Thicke concert and Saturday night’s concert by Jennifer Nettles.
