It’s mostly dry in the Atlanta city limits, but pretty much everywhere northwest of the city can’t say that Friday.
Showers span from Cobb County to the northwest corner of the state as heavy rain continues to move into Georgia from eastern Alabama, Channel 2 Action News reported.
All the while, traffic inside the Perimeter is being affected by wrecks, not slick pavement, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Multiple southbound lanes on the Downtown Connector are blocked before I-20, the Traffic Center reported.
I-20 has its own wreck to deal with. Multiple westbound lanes of the interstate in Fulton County were blocked just past I-285, according to the Traffic Center.
More rain is expected throughout the day, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan. It will be mostly light, but Monahan said North Georgia could use every drop with ongoing drought conditions.
At least it’s not chilly. While Thursday started out clear and cold, Friday morning’s lows were 25 degrees higher in LaGrange and 10 degrees higher in Atlanta.
The day may have started warmer but it will finish cooler, according to Channel 2. With all the cloud cover and a 70% chance of showers, Atlanta has warmed up slowly to 72 degrees, which is four degrees above predictions.
The scattered showers and downpours are forecast to continue through 8 p.m., making for wet conditions for Friday night football. Monahan said most games should not be washed out as rain is expected off and on.
More rain is in the forecast for the weekend. Showers are 60% likely Saturday and Sunday with an isolated thunderstorm possible, according to Channel 2.
Monahan does not expect it to rain the entire weekend, but the showers will likely be more widespread Saturday night into Sunday morning.
“Sunday afternoon, I think, is going to be best for your outdoor plans with some more sunshine breaking in,” he said.
