The week started with bitter cold and freeze warnings, but it’s expected to end with highs in the 70s, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“Back and forth ... that’s spring,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Lows will be in the 40s Saturday morning before rising to a projected high of 70, according to Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain, but much of that will be in far North Georgia, Channel 2 reported. That’s good news for those in town for the Atlanta Auto Show, the NCAA Tournament game between Loyola-Chicago and Kansas State, and the March for Our Lives.

“I think that we’re going to salvage some of our outdoor plans, but not so much on Sunday,” Burns said.

Cold air should return by Sunday, when there is a 60 percent chance of rain, Channel 2 reported. The forecast high drops to 59 degrees.

“We’re going to have a bit of weather tug-of war over the next 48 hours in North Georgia,” Burns said.

Burns said the chilly weather is expected to last through Monday, when temperatures will be as cold as those in January: “This is the winter that just won’t go away.”

The wet weather will help North Georgia stay out of a drought, Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said.

Currently, the temperature is 63 degrees in Atlanta, surpassing the expected high.

The good news? The pollen count is down.

Though still in the high range, Atlanta's count dropped from 794 particles per cubic meter of air Thursday to 430 Friday, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma. Neither of the totals came close to last year's season high of 3,559 or the 2016 season high of 4,107.
