Rain that pounded parts of metro Atlanta on Thursday afternoon ended by the evening, but forecasters are predicting another round of storms for Friday.

In Cherokee, Dawson and Forsyth counties, where there were reports of thunderstorms and winds up to 40 mph, the National Weather Service advised residents to seek shelter and avoid use of electrical appliances unless in cases of emergency.

“Our unsettled weather period continues,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “We’ll see the same scenario again on Friday.”

That unsettled weather is expected to continue through the holiday weekend, she said.

“Fourth of July looks like it will be wet off and on during the day,” she said.

Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said the stormy weather will likely continue into early next week, with hail and strong winds possible.

“A series of disturbances will keep North Georgia in an active weather pattern into the start of next week,” she said. “Scattered thunderstorms are ongoing across North Georgia and will be common through the holiday weekend. Some storms could be strong or even severe and produce 1” hail, damaging wind gusts, and frequent lightning.”

Minton put the chance of rain at 60 percent Thursday and Friday, and 40 percent Saturday and Sunday.

Afternoon highs will be in the mid-80s through Sunday, with morning lows around 70 degrees.
